Minimum recovery time from hysterectomy.From: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 8 Apr 1999 15:05:31 -0500 (CDT)
I am 52 and still having regular periods, no symptoms of menopause. However, I have 2 fibroids, each appx. 7.5cm, and have 2 days of very heavy bleeding each month. My doctor is recommending hysterectomy - including ovaries because of my age. I am single and cannot be off work for the 4-6 weeks I am told is usually necessary for recovery. I think I can manage 2 weeks. Also, I commute 70 miles round trip and drive a stick with a fairly stiff clutch - will I be able to drive within 2 weeks? My questions: With such large fibroids, am I a candidate for vaginal hysterectomy? Which type of surgery will allow me to return to work the earliest? Thanks for any help you can give me.
