BICORNUATE UTERUSFrom: SARAH (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 8 Apr 1999 08:14:16 -0500 (CDT)
I have had 3 misicarriage's 9/86, 6/98, 3/99. The doctors related the 2nd one with just this happens you have nothing to worry about you normal have one cycle then you can try again. During the second miscarriage I had some bleeding so they sent me to the radiologist to have a obstertrical sonogram and then is was noted the crown rump length measured 22mm which approximated to 9 post menstrual week of age. Fetal heartbeat was documented with M-mode. There were no identifiable complication. There was a suggestion for the possibility of a bicornuate uterus withe the gestation in the left horn. There were no specific identifiable complications. I miscarried a week later. The docter informed me 3 weeks later that I was normal had nothing to worry about have a cycle then I could get pregnant again. 25Dec98 pregnant again every thig seem to be fine had a little spotting in Feb99 got nervous they did a obstetrical sonogram noted in my file findings are consisten with a bicornuate usterus. There is a gestatinal sac with a fetal pole and yolk sac in the left horn of the bicornuate uterus. By the crown-rump lenth the fetus is 6 weeks and 5 days. by the sac size the fetus is 6 weeks and 4 days. Heart rate of 125 BPM is present, again note in the left horn of what appears to be a bicornuate uterus. 3Mar99 in the evening had some bleeding was scared went to the emergency room they check my hcg level and was normal for 10 weeks informed me that I was having a threated miscarriage but my cervix was closed which was good, and they mentioned that I was passing old blood which I have no idea what that means, they tried to hear a heart beat but could'nt but told me not to worry that it might be a little early. Informed to go to the docoters the next day and have a sonogram. My doctoer saw me the next day examied me and stated that my cervix was closed which was a good sign and that I was passing old blood, they never explaind what old blood ment. He wanted to see if he could get a heart beat and he did so he felt good that I did'nt need a sonogram. That evening I had real bad cramps and was passing blood more heavier than before, went to the doctor's the next day and the doctor could not hear a heart beat. I had to go get a sonogram and there finding were there is a uterine enlargement with a bicornuate uterus present. There is a prominece to the endometrum in the right side of the bicornuate uterus. On the left there is and area of mixed echogenicity with a central rounded hypoechoic core measuring about 20mm. No formed intrauterind pregnancy is seen in the left horn of the bicornuate uterus. I found out that the sac was empty, kind of socked because I never saw the fetus that night which the miscarrige before I saw the fetus. I was told that I had to go back to the doctor's office, so I went back there and all the doctor's were busy or were not there I talked to a mid wife and she told me that they thought that I have a bicornuate uterus that she was real sympathetic told me that there was some other testing that they could do blod work and other things, but I realy can't rember. Asked me if I wanted a D&C and I said yes, because in Jun98 I took some pill to pass everything and it was very painful. She left her office to fined out who was on call for the weekend and was trying very hard for me to have the D&C on that friday night or the next morning, but the docter on call that weekend would for what ever reason would not do the D&C. they made me wait until Monday. The mid-wife felt really bad for me and said if I was any pain over the weekend to call and the docter that was on call. early sunday morning I new it was coming very, very bad cramps it was like a big fat pole was stuck and I new what was happening I had been there before. finally called the docter's office and left a message I hated to do that because it was 5:30 in the morning, she called me back and said that I was scheduled for the D&C on monday for the pain to take 3 or 4 montrin every two to three hours that is was probably just passing some tissue, so she new I was in pain. but really did'nt feel any symthy for me, I was very frustrated but new I really could'nt do anything. I had the D&C on monday but I felt like why even bother since I knew that I had passed the large stuff. Had the D&C on the 8th of March, had my post op visit on the 16March and the doctor said that the D&C went fine and that there was still some tissue left when he did the D&C. Asked me if I had any questions and I said when I had the sonogram on the 5th of Mar there had been some statement of a bicornuate uterus and he made the statement that there that was not for sure and if I wanted to I could have a sonogram done in 3 to 4 weeks. And even had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to go back on the pill I said no way, I had been of the pill since I was 28 and I'm now 31 and would like to have children. Then he made the comment well at least you know you can get pregnant. I did'nt think that was the right time to say that. he gave me a referel to have a sonogram. I felt very discouraged when I left there because he didn't give me any ideas or test that could be done. He also made the comment that the miscarrige was not caused by the bicornuate uterus because I was only 11 weeks and usually with a bicornuate uterus is happens later on like 20 to 27 weeks. So I left there real discouraged. Called my primary docter made a visit with her and I being referred to another docter, which will be on 13Apr99. Somewhat anciaous and nevous, had another sonogram on the 6Apr99, the radiologist was somewhat confused why I was there because they had done the last sonogram and had noted the bicornuate uterus. I said I'm just doing what the docter had requested and told me to wait a few week until my uterus was out of the pregnant mode. She looked and said that it was a bicornuate uterus but seemed somewhat confused and called in the docter that had done the other sonograms and said that it was a tough call but then determined it was a bicornuate uterus. My docter's appoinment is on the 13Apr99 with a new docter my sonogram results will be sent there and I'm bringing my file. I have done some reading and from what I'm finding out there is a bicornuate Uterus and a Septate uterus. In my file when the D&D was done he wrote findings irregular cavity. A septum may have been palpable to curettage. entered the other side of the septum which was the other horn of the uterus. My question is can you tell just by a sonogram that it is a bicornuate uterus or a Septate uterus? From what I have read the only way you can tell if it is bicornuate or septate you should have laparoscopy, is that true? Septate uterus has not even been mentioned for me. but from what I've read I'm kinda of hoping for a Septate uterus. Do I have any options? what kind of questions should I ask the docter and are there any other test that can been done? Is there any hope? I will keep trying. Sorry this is so long and drown out but I would like to find some answers and some help, my time clock is ticking, I'm very determined. What kind of questing should I ask? Thanks Sarah moffett
