BCP and antiboitics - doctor didn't knowFrom: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 2 Apr 1999 14:16:27 -0600 (CST)
I am on vacation in Colorado. I went to see a doctor yesterday because of a bad URI (I have asthma). He prescribed Bactrim for 10 days. I asked him what I should do about my BCP (Ortho Novum 1/35). He looked it up in the PDR and told me it wouldn't be a problem. The pharmacist that filled the prescription said it would be a problem. I'm not sure what to do. This is the first time I've been on antiboitics since starting BCP's 1 1/2 yrs ago. I started the Bactrim last night. I also took my last pill in my pack (I skip the placebos b/c of migraines). Should I start the new pack tonight, like scheduled? Or wait 9 more days until the antibiotics are finished? Regardless, how long am I not fully protected against pregnancy? I appreciate any help. I don't have my OB/GYN's number with me and I doubt I would get a return call out of state anyway. FYI, I posted this yesterday and it never showed up. My apologies if this ends up being a double post. Thank you, Ann
