Re: Is this legal?: SusanFrom: Poet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Mar 1999 16:15:43 -0800
Susan when a physician tells her patient everything is fine that is in NO WAY A CONTRACT STATING THAT THINGS ARE DEFINITELY FINE OR THAT THEY WILL STAY THAT WAY... it is merely an impression one gets from the evidence the patient puts forth (from labs, exams etc)... physicians cannot promise that after monitoring someone's heartrate and having it appear normal for lets say WEEKS that the person won't have an acute MI the next morning (not to say that with technology today these things aren't easily identified because they normally are.. but NOT always).. we are biological organisms made up of billions of cells that have the ability to change, no one can predict with 100% accuracy what will happen to someone else... they can only assume...physicians are by no means fortune tellers, they can only relate their impressions based on previous experiences and usual progressions of disease processes and normal growth and development. And to answer your previous question, yes there are attorneys that only practice in medical issues.
