Hi Susan,

i don't think that was necessarily a mind over matter approach, but to answer your question, many physicians.. namely DO's (doctors of osteopathic medicine) believe that the mind, body and spirit are tightly intertwined and that all three aspects of a patient must be assesed and addressed for diagnosis and treatment. DO's in fact approach medicine from a holistic (as in whole system) view point and are trained to treat patients in that matter.

p.s. its legal to encourage and support your patients and I don't think this obgyn was necessarily stating they would withold important medical problems from the patient
