Confused about marginal seperationFrom: Jill (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Mar 1999 09:51:17 -0600 (CST)
I have been told at 5 weeks (I am now 13 weeks)that I had a slight marginal placental seperation at the top of my placenta. I have heard bits and pieces of a explanations of what this means and I am completely confused. I was told that this is similar to placental abruption (usually the happens in the 3rd trimester) but, because it happened so early in the pregnancy and that the placenta has more growing to do, that it will likely heal and not become anymore threatening. I say probably, it can become worse but not likely. I have also heard that this leads to pre-term labor, transfusions and loss of fetus. If I have a high risk of the above complications I am not willing to chance this because I have a beautiful 3 yr old and want to be around for her. I have several factors that I probably should mention. I had two episodes of 5 minute bleeding that only was mild spotting. No uterine tenderness nothing. I don't smoke, do drugs, drink or have high blood pressure. I have a slightly yellow discharge that I have been told is a yeast infection. I was wondering also, if the slight bleeding I did have which was at 10 weeks, could be from the infection. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.
