Debbie,

In March of 1996, I had a TAH/BSO. For over thirty years I had suffered with heavy periods and debilitating cramps which, in the 3 years before the surgery, kept me in bed for at least three days every month. In the thee months preceding my surgery, extremely heavy bleeding sent me to the ER 4 times. I was hospitalized two of those times. The first time to receive 5 units of blood----the second required 3 units of blood. We had tried every hormone and combination thereof that was available at the time.

When my doctor said it was time to throw in the towel, I was so relieved that the misery was finally going to be over, I went to surgery happy and confident. I was in the hospital about 48 hours after the surgery. I really felt very little pain and, other than being tired for a while, had no problem with my recovery. A friend had told me it would take about a year to be completely healed and I found that to be true. The only problem I had was a pulling feeling once in a while around the incesion. This I understand was the muscles, etc.. It was not painful, just slightly uncomfortable. This took about a year before it finally went away completely,

I think having a positive attitude (and this is only my opinion) is probably the biggest help in recovering and getting on with life after your hysterectomy. I feel wondefulr------I didn't feel this good when I was in my 20's and I am 55 now. As far as sex is concerned, I find it more enjoyable than before,

I wish you well with your surgery.

Diane
