Re: To Jill >Placental AbruptionFrom: Jas (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 24 Mar 1999 11:18:42 -0600 (CST)
Hi Jill, I started to spot at the end of week 12 and the spotting turned into passing clots. I thought it was really strange because it seemed like it would start and stop. It stopped if I rested and started up as soon as I resumed activity. I remember I had this occur over a weekend and by Monday when I would have these 5-10 minute bleeds I called and insisted on a U/S. It was then they saw the separation and because of the size of mine they were surprised I had not been bleeding heavier. All of week 13(I was hospitalized) I did bleed more frequent and heavier but at the end of the week it was down to spotting and eventually quit. I should mention the week I was hospitalized they gave me progesterone shots 2x daily as a last ditch effort to help the pg. I still bleed with the shots but it got much lighter. My peri said at the time the shots are not a cure all but at that point he had to do something with me and couldn't send me home with a separation that large. I did 24 hr bedrest as soon as I was discharged. I only got up to eat and go to the bathroom from then on. As the pg progressed I would gradually get up and sit here and there but never long. I did this until week 35. What I did was extreme and bedrest not a proven thing that helps abruptions but I was desparate. Peri did feel however that the low activity aided in a quick reabsorption of the blood. Again I really encourage you not to despair. It would be great if they could give you more frequent scans to check on your baby. I was scanned every 2-3 weeks throughout. I was absolutely hysterical when my abruption was discovered and the scans helped me calm down. Dr. felt the same way about the scans and even chuckled that if he didn't end up on Prozac after this incident with me it would be a miracle. In the end I had a healthy baby, Dr. stayed off meds and we both have an ulcer *smile* One last thing I should mention is, my birth was a VBAC so I avoided the c-section all togethereven with the abruption this time so I would encourage you not to dwell on a possible tough birth in the end anything is possible. Keeping best wishes and hope alive for you! Jenn
