Re: Can Endometriosis just stop growing?

Hello Denise: I, too, had a TAH/BSO due to endo (two years ago this June). Fortunately for me, I have absolutely no endo symptoms at all, so I guess I can consider myself "Endo-free". I am sorry that you are not so lucky. I think that endo is one of those "well, gee, it could do this, or it could do that" type of diseases. I think that, in order for the best chance of recovery, then the endo should be completely excised. I also know that estrogen can be a culprit when it comes to endo but I am sorry that I can't answer your question about ROS or what part it plays in your endo. Are you suffering from adhesions? They can cause a lot of pain; could this be why your physician doesn't think surgery would help? I'm not sure why he thinks that further surgery wouldn't help - perhaps adhesions are the reason why. I know that pain clinics can be of great help to some people - but I also think that the problems you have should be dealt with as completely as possible, too (if they haven't been already, that is). If you haven't gone to the Endo section here at OBGYN.NET, then you really should. It could answer some of your questions! The address is:

I would also recommend checking out the Atlanta Reproductive Health Centre. They have a very good section on endo:

http:\\www.ivf.com

Both these places may have the links to the answers you need. Also, I am hoping that someone else here at WHF may be able to give a more complete professional response to your pressing question. The only other advice I could offer is to get as much information as you can and make sure you understand what your doctor is telling you. Ask more questions, and if you are still not satisfied, then try to find another physician who may be more familiar with this confusing disease. I know from personal experience that this disease can create havoc. I am now almost 44 years old, and truly feel better now than I did for 10 years before my surgery. It bothers me to hear of people's suffering - especially if it can be helped! I hope you find the answers you need. Be well, Jean ps There is an endo chat this evening at the chat room here at obgyn.net. Address is: talk@obgyn.net. You really should check this out. Their chats are excellent, and perhaps someone can offer you some answers. You should check the room out now, so that you can join in the chat this evening!
