Irregular fetal heartbeat on ultrasound at 8 weeksFrom: Allison (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 20 Mar 1999 18:43:35 -0600 (CST)
I am 8 weeks pregnant and had an emergency ultrasound yesterday because I was spotting brownish blood in the evening prior. I was told that the baby is still alive and that the heartbeat is irregular. They also mentioned that this irregularity could be because of the ongoing development in the heart. This is my third pregnancy. My son is 5 and was one week over term and I miscarried 14 months after his birth. I am not having any more spotting and there was not any pain involved at all. I am wondering what the chances are that if I carry to term, will there be any abnormalities in the heart or is this a common ultrasound reading and that everything could still be fine? I did not receive any other explanation and I am wondering when I should have my next ultrasound to find out if there is anything changed about the heartbeat? Thank you Allison Akre
