Approaching menopause

I am 48 years old.My last period was in Dec.On two occasions I started spotting after intercourse. This last time I have spotted for 9 days.As you approach menopause how do you know what spotting is normal and what is not?I have 2 small fibroid tumors that 2 Docs. say shouldn't bother me,But I feel bloated all the time.I am on Prometrium twice a day for 8 days every 6 weeks.I guess it's supposed to offset Estrogen.Anyway the spotting started 6 weeks after I took a dose and before the next dose.Is the spotting due to the Prometrium?I spotted before I started taking it.Is this supposed to be like a period before you stop them? Thanks for your answer.Susan
