Metaformin for PCOS

I am 19 years old and have been diagnost with PCOS for three years. I am currently taking Ovacom 35 to make me menstrate. Without birth control pills I do not have periods at all. I have gained 50 pounds in the last 3 years, am constantly breaking out, and have begun to notice the hair on my upper lip getting darker. My question is about a new treatment I have heard about: Metaformin. I have heard that this could possibly take away the symptoms of PCOS and even make women fertile again. Is this true? If so has it been released for public use or as a prescriptive medicine? Also, is there any way I can currently get it? Any information on this would be appreciated. Thank You
