No Uterus/No OvariesFrom: Barb (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 27 Feb 1999 18:16:40 -0600 (CST)
My 16 year old daughter has not started her period yet. She started developing breasts and getting pubic hair at age 9. She has been examined by a nurse practioner who states she has a small vaginal opening. An ultrasound yesterday shows no obvious uterus or ovaries (according to the tech). Blood work has been done to check hormones (no results yet). We will see a gyn on Monday. Any information on this disorder would be appreciated. If she in fact, does not have a uterus or ovaries - I am especially curious about hormone replacement since we have a history of early heart disease in our family. Also, if she does not have a vaginal opening, how will this affect her when having intercourse? Is there some sort of reconstructive surgery? I want to make sure I ask the right questions when I talk to the doctor. I'm an RN but have not worked with gyn patients since nursing school and never with anyone with this condition. All the info I can get will be appreciated.
