rectal pain

In february 1998 had TAH BSO and burch bladder suspension for fibroid and ovarian cyst due to endometriosis at a teaching hospital in Boston. Recovery was uneventful. In May 1998 developed what felt like hemorrhoidal discomfort and itching which did not respond to usual treatment of sitz baths, increased fluids, increased fiber. Saw surgeon in July and gastroenterologist in August neither of whom could find any reason for my discomfort. In October my internist finally diagnosed pinworms which I thought was the answer to my problems. Itching improved with two doses of treatment but rectal discomfort continued. At this point I changed internists because Dr. P did not take my complaints seriously. New internist Dr. L suggested I see surgeon again because of length of my discomfort. Saw surgeon again in January who again could find no reason for my discomfort and recommended again that I see gastroenterologist. Treated myself for vaginal yeast infection just before seeing surgeon second time but seemed to be having more rectal symptoms than vaginal. Stools became more "normal", better color and more formed after treating vaginal yeast. I have now waited 4 weeks with two more to wait until I can see gastroenterologist (different one) My rectal discomfort has gotten so much worse since the first of the year it's driving me crazy, feel like hemorrhoid that never goes away. Sitting on soft surfaces is very difficult, painful. Sitting on hard surfaces more comfortable. I'm uncomfortable so much of the time now that I can hardly stand it. It's now 1:30 a.m. and I can't sleep because of symptoms. Are my insides falling out through my rectum? My current internist doesn't want to do anything until I see GE. Please give me some advise/moral support and I feel I have been going round in circles and my symptoms only get worse with time. Thanks Jeanne
