Please, can a doctor tell me how this can happen? I am really shaken up by this tragedy.

By the way, I am 27 weeks pregnant, myself -- second pregnancy, no problems so far, but my first delivery was considered "distressed" although my now 2 year old son is now perfectly fine. >> ******************* **** Lauren: The information you give about the death of a delivered woman is not enough to

make any reliable comment.

Let me give you some odds on your pregnancy and delivery being normal.

It is probably safer to deliver a baby than it is to drive 200 miles on American highways.

In almost 40 years of being associated with pregnancy and delivery I took part in, or observed some 6000 to 7000 deliveries. I never saw a mother die in all of these deliveries.

There were two or three occasions when they came into the hospital very sick, but the got better and went home. Rarely did they lose their baby.

Some of the most serious problems occurred in women who had the baby die and then they delivered AFTER this, but they all got well with treatment.

You will do well. Happy birthing day! Dr. George
