Progesterone ~~ Problems with PregnanciesFrom: Angela (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 25 Feb 1999 13:33:28 -0600 (CST)
My husband and I tried for 2 years to get pregnant with no luck. I had an ultrasound to diagnose very large ovarian cysts and found out I was pregnant. I lost the baby at 5 months. I had surgery 1 month later to remove the cysts and got pregnant immediately with my daughter. She was born 2 months early due to preeclampsia. We're now experiencing secondary infertility that appears to be caused by low progesterone levels. Could low progesterone levels be what caused me to lose my first baby? He only weighed 2.5 ounces at 20 weeks gestation (he was already dead before I went into labor). My daughters placenta was abnormal. The umbilical cord branched off of the placenta in two places joining together in a Y shape before attaching to her. The Dr.'s had me release it for research but then never told us what it meant. Does anyone know? Have you ever seen an umbilical cord do that? Twins run in my family, could it be why?? I know there's no way to be sure about any of this. I just wonder if there are possible suggestions at all. Angie
