Re: Bleeding 6weeks Post HysterectomyFrom: Anna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 22 Feb 1999 21:36:21 -0600 (CST)
Kim, I am not a physician, but rather a woman that has recently experienced a similar situation. After I had a complete hysterectemy due to heavy bleeding, endo, and severe pain, I began having vaginal bleeding about three days after and continued for almost two months. The physician that did the surgery told me that it would just take time for my body to completely heal. However, after about 5 weeks I went for a second opinion and it turned out that since I had a complete hysterectemy and they also took my cervix that apparently your cervix is a type of a "plug" that holds things in and since mine was removed they had to do a "slip knot" to pull that opening back together. My knot had either broken or something. Needless to say they had to go back in and repair it. Keep in mind this is not a medical opinion just what my understanding as a patient was. Once I pointed this out to my surgeon he fixed it and everything as far as vaginal bleeding was fine. I definitely suggest that if this continues that you get a second opinion. I was told by two physicians that this isn't very common and so it can easily be overlooked. Hope this helps.
