spinal anesthesiaFrom: Kelley (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 18 Feb 1999 18:36:30 -0600 (CST)
I have a question regarding spinal anesthesia. If a patient feels the very first incision of surgery, should something be done to further anesthetize the body? This is in regards to a cesarean section. Twenty minutes BEFORE surgery was finished, there was no anesthesia above the umbilicus. Should something have been done from the beginning? There was no SHARP pain with the first incision, only the pressure of the knife and the opening of the incision. Is it normal to go on with surgery if the patient has feeling from the beginning? Thanks for any advice! Kelley
