Why is it a waste of money? (And whose money are you concerned about?)

Most of this was in the original post. To repeat, the MD who did the ultrasound describes it as a "cyst" that is "just under three inches" and "looks like an endometrioma." It might be growing; on previous ultrasound approximately 1 year ago, the same ovary had a cystic mass about half that size. My OB-GYN could feel it on exam, which is why I was sent for ultrasound, but he didn't say anything about exactly how it felt. > >>> Do you agree with testing for CA-125 and CEA in this situation?

Maternal grandmother had very early menopause at about 38 years (but lived to 88 years, though she didn't have much of a clue what was going on for the last 10 or 15). Not sure about mother, who had hysterectomy at 47 from uncontrollable bleeding due to fibroids; I'm not certain if that really was "menstrual" bleeding. My mother's relatives were Dutch/German going back a couple of generations; father's parents came from Italy, much sturdier stock I think--paternal grandmother lived until 92 and barely ever saw a doctor. Dad's sister (still alive and quite well, now about 76 years old) also had hysterectomy at midlife due to problems with fibroids. (Dad's also still alive and well at 72; Mom died at 66 of ischemic stroke.) >
