Re: ADHESIONS....is there anyone who believes THEY cause pain?From: Sharon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 11 Feb 1999 23:26:49 +0900
Dear Toni, I am sorry you are going through what you are. I too suffer from severe constipation (due to endo) and know what you are going through. I have had laxatives not work for me too and even after taking a 2 litre bowel prep the night before my op, my intestines were not "clean". I am sorry you are not getting the pain medication you need, but there is one thing I would like to draw your attention to, narcotics cause constipation in "normal" people so for people like ourselves it will be even more severe. I took both codeine and then later morphine last fall before my second op for endo. It made the bowel situation much more severe. I do not think it is a good thing to go 6 days without a bowel movement. I often have my gynaecologist give me "carry-out" enemas that I can use at home when the bowel thing gets really bad. There have been several times these enemas haven't worked too and other measures had to be taken. If I haven't gone for more than 3 days I stop eating solid foods until I do go again. You are very lucky to be in the States where many excellent surgeons are. I wonder if you could maybe find one who specializes in adhesions and have surgery with him/her. I hope you can get some relief soon (If you excuse the pun :-) ) Sharon
