Hi Mike - how sweet of you to worry about your friend - she is very lucky to have a friend like you. Although it may not be common to not menstuate, it certainly happens more often than one might think and it doesnt neccesarily mean something is seriously wrong. However, she does need to see a physician to get it worked out. Does she have abdominal pain? Leg pain? it could be a cyst, it could be a hormonal imbalance - is she on the birth control pill? Sometimes that can straighten things out. If she isnt menstruating, she isnt ovulating which means that conceiving a child might be difficult. However, if she doesnt want to get pregnant now, I certainly wouldnt rely on that fact for birth control. She doesnt need to be afraid to see a doctor although her fears are understandable. Maybe you could go with her but Id certainly encourage her to see a professional - an obgyn or even a certified nurse midwife if she is more comfortable. Good luck!

BTW - I am not a physician, I am a childbirth educator - maybe one of the ohysicians can offer you some more insight. :-)

Best Wishes, Elizabeth NJ
