Re: AdenomyosisFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 24 Jan 1999 23:19:51 EST
Susan: An adenomyomatous polyp with the preceding "BENIGN" is not worrisome. Adeno glandular Myomatous = muscular like. I think you mean 'Adenomyosis' when use the acronym 'Adeno' ? Adenomyosis is a completely different animal than your polyp. Adenomyosis is often called 'internal Endometriosis' because the uterine lining GLANDS are IN the muscular wall of the uterus (beneath the internal surface). A feeling of 'falling out' ; heavy menses; and low mid line backache are common with Adenomyosis. Endometriosis is a condition where uterine lining type cells are out of place (NOT within the lining of the uterus). They are growing outside the normal place -- e.g., they are on the surface of the uterus, ovaries, tubes, bowel, appendix, etc. These glands bleed cyclically every month at the time of the menses. Pain in the pelvis at menstrual time is the main symptom. Do adhesions go away at menopause. I would doubt it. Adhesions are not dependent upon hormone levels. Adhesions are scar like fibrous tissue usually between two or more organs. [e.g. The bowel (large or small) and the uterus.] They are usually formed in the immediate post operative period. Some people tend to be more 'adhesion forming' than others. Adhesions are difficult to prevent in these people. The pelvic pain and urinary symptoms you are having need to be evaluated. It doesn't wound serious because you have lived so long with it -- but I would feel you should seek out a good doctor to get a diagnosis and possibly treat the problem. See a doctor, ============================================= *Note: Opinions expressed here are for educational purposes only.
