a note about tubalsFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 21 Jan 1999 10:34:14 EST
UGH! I hate to keep a thread going that may cause unpleasant feelings but I need to say a few things - and this is from a woman that has had many problems after a tubal. First of all, this is a forum for women to ask questions of health care providers and vice versa. The posts I have seen are not asking questions, just riling up hostility and anger and fear - no physician will respond to this because they do not want to get caught up in stupid mud slinging. If they do, they will get frustrated and leave the forum or will not be looked upon as answering proffesionally. Everyone should be able to understand this. But because I understand the frustration and anger that results from having ongoing medical problems without answers and have been to some seemingly uncaring providers (there are a few out there - not many, tho) I would like to adress some of your issues. 1. MOST IMPORTANT! you attract more bees (flies) with honey, not vinegar. 2. Take a look at yourself before and after tubal - is there MAYBE a possibility of pre existing conditions that may have been aggravated by the tubal? 3. Look deep - deal with the dreaded psycological factors involved with the process of no longer being able to have children - even if it was elective there is a grieving period that can and should happen. Acknowledge it - dont run from it. It doesnt mean that its all in your head, it just is something to think about. It cqan be more powerful than you think. 4. What were your reasons for getting the tubal - think about this - it may answer some questions or bring up new ones. 5. Lifestyle changes, a supportive doctor and education. This does include age. Learn all you can, consider the source and then use your knowledge to get to the bottom of your individual situation - people dont respond well when they are put on the defensive. This is just a few of the things I have needed to do to get some of my questions answered - its not an easy process but first I have realized that I needed to acept the situation for what it is and deal with it - stress just aggravates things. So please, if you are looking for people that need an outlet, post the link - i know there used to be a mailing list for post tubal problems on onelist. If it still exists, let us know and those that want to join in will. Start a new one if you desire - many ways to do this on the internet. Lets not disrupt the forum for anger and frustration and mud slinging or vents. The results are sure to be negative, not positive. OK, I think I have said enough - now Im on to finding out why my computer seems to be PMSing Have a great day. :-) Best Wishes, Elizabeth Mazelis, CCE
