Adhesions DO CAUSE PAIN!!!.....A *new* web site for adhesion sufferers will soon be here! From: Helen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Jan 1999 13:57:02 -0600 (CST)
THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.......Adhesions DO CAUSE PAIN!!! I have suffered with the pain of adhesions for almost 29 years. I had been told by many, many doctors that the pain was all in my head...that it was not real. Be sure to read this article: It's Not " All In Your Head!" It can be found at: <http://www-med.stanford.edu/healthlink_stanfordMedicine/endo/endo.html> It took me 27 years to be able to find a doctor who would listen to me and believe me... and then....who would suggest the diagnostic laparoscopy that finally gave me the CORRECT DIAGNOSIS for the many years I had suffered. Unfortunately for me, an adhesion barrier was not used...so within 10 days after surgery I started to feel pain againof adhesions...the adhesions were beginning to come back already! "Surgery begets adhesions and adhesions beget more surgery"...a catch 22 situation! Had my gynecologist used an ADHESION BARRIER, I would have had a better chance to be *pain-free*. Had he done "SECOND-LOOK" LAPAROSCOPY, I would have had a better chance to be *pain-free*. Dr. J.Glenn Bradley, who posts at this Forum occasionally, is a strong believer in "second-look laparoscopy." He has said many times that if this procedure is done within so many days after surgery these adhesions can be easily "swept down." After my awful experience with the chronic pain of adhesions for sooooo many years, I made a decision to learn everything that I could about adhesions and anything related to adhesions. Now that I have educated myself about this surgical problem, I am willing to share what I have learned with anyone else who is also suffering with chronic pelvic pain...brought on by adhesions as a result of surgery or as a result of endometriosis. Please feel free to e-mail me. I can also provide you with information about a support group that has recently been formed...The International Adhesions Society (IAS). Dr. David Wiseman is the originator of the IAS. Dr. Wiseman has the web site, SYNECHION, which is located at: <http://members.aol.com/synechion> SYNECHION is a one-stop site where you can learn about adhesions and adhesion barriers. I encourage you to take a look! Dr. Wiseman has written the article: "A PATIENT'S GUIDE TO ADHESIONS or RELATED PAIN...or...YOU ARE NOT ALONE." His article can be found at the following web site: <http://www.obgyn.net/english/pubs/features/wiseman/wiseman_adhesions.htm> Dr. Wiseman is very knowledgeable about post-surgical adhesions and adhesion barriers...and is in the process of setting up a web site for the International Adhesions Society ...for people who suffer from adhesions...as a place for them to share their experience, receive support from others, learn more about adhesions and adhesion barriers...and to learn about the progress research is making with the new gel adhesion barriers that are in clinical trials in the United States. Surgeons in Europe and Canada are already using gel adhesion barriers in surgery! In the United States we have to wait until the FDA gives its approval. If you would like to have your name added to Dr. Wiseman's mailing list, please let me know. I have volunteered to keep the mailing list for the International Adhesions Society up-to-date. I hope to hear from you.
