LOSS OF LIBIDO, I wish we all had good helpful answers to your wife's (and yours)problem. To me problem is such an inadaquate word to describe what she is going through. I have had a complete loss of libedo since my TAH/BSO (ovaries removed, I was 40and very sexually active with my husband of 22 years). No I did not Want this surgery but was resigned to it and consented to have it, therefore No unresolved issues. If she had her ovaries removed she went into surgical menopause therefore hormonal shock, big difference than when one or both ovaries are left and functioning properly. I went immediately on .625 of Premarin brand name, still had severe flashes, insominia, NO LIBEDO, incontinence, breasts shrunk 1 cup size in 30 days without loosing weight. Hair all over body all but quit growing. I tried many different hormone cocktails including testosterone, but 2 years later and 1 year on estradiol 2mg. I am better, but a long way from the healthy, active, sexual person I was and want to be. Until a woman has actually experienced the worst of SURGICAL MENOPAUSE,hormone hell, the inability to crave and enjoy sex, or intimacy, no matter how bad you tell yourself you want it, they will not KNOW. I wish we (women like me)could help the doctors and others to understand, no matter how much you tell yourself you want this, do everything to promote it, that special close bonding feeling which comes with intimacy is not there. The doctors say that sex is in the mind, to a degree I believe that, but the mind will only carry you so far, then the body must finish what the mind began. For some of us this does not happen. I can only attribute this lack of 'libedo' to loosing the organs and hormones, which enabled my body to finish what my mind began. I hope I have not offended anyone here, it was not my intention, only wanted to give the other side of Lea's post. I am so happy that she and many women do have good outcomes , we all go into this surgery expecting a good end, but there are two sides to every issue. I would be glad to exchange messages and info. Angela
