question about drs adviceFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 14 Jan 1999 09:53:36 -0600 (CST)
First, I want to thank those that responded to my ealier post. I did go to the doctor about the achy, left-sided pain that gets worse with my period, some diahhrea and on BCPs. The doctor said that she suspected endometriosis and suggested that I first have a barium enema test to rule out any GI problems. Then if that didn't show anything, she suggested a laproscopy. Being that I am 28 and want children, I am concerned that if it is endo, that I am still able to bear children. My question is, should I took to medical management (changing BCPs or something) before I take the step of having any invasive tests/surgery to diagnosis the probelm (i.e. make the assumption I have endo and if the treatment works, then great)? Or, is it best to first try to diagnosis the problem with the barium enema/laproscopy and then treat is medically?? I want to know if what she is suggesting is standard or not. Kindof clueless here and even though I have read some info on the subject, I can't find anything on diagnosis of endo except for the laproscopic route. Thanks alot. Amy
