Re: CystFrom: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 12 Jan 1999 22:10:15 -0600 (CST)
I've had multiple ovarian cysts, one which required surgery. Any cyst 6cm or more is a surgery cyst. It's hard to tell for sure if a cyst is cancerous or not from an ultrasound. My doctor thought mine might be cancerous because of the rapid growth. It wasn't. A more conservative approach would be to start with a laprascopic procedure to check out the cyst. A doctor can get a better idea looking at the cyst if it's cancerous or not. If not, you can have it removed laprascopicly, which means you could go home the next day or same day. If it looks strange, he could do a regular incision and remove the entire cyst, and possibly the ovary. This would mean a longer hospital stay. A good article on ovarian cysts is located at: http://www.obgyn.net/women/articles/bradley/banter_0708.htm Good luck. I hope you become pain free soon. Ann
