Previous positive ANA and current pregnancyFrom: AMD (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 11 Jan 1999 12:40:55 -0600 (CST)
Another question today on this forum reminded me that I had a positive ANA test a few years ago -- I had forgotten about it until today. The titer then was 1:40 with a speckled pattern. The doctor then told me that the positive ANA was probably due to the chronic inflammation I had from a wrist injury, or that I could be part of the group of people that have a positive ANA in the absence of an autoimmune disorder. He told me that my titer was not high enough to indicate a full-blown immune disorder, considering that I was not experiencing any symptoms besides the wrist pain. Since I had forgotten about this test, I have not told my OB about it. Can this previous positive ANA have any impact on my current pregnancy (now 15 weeks)? I have looked through the archives and found several references to this test, but did not find any specific information. What kind of complications are associated with a positive ANA? Is this only seen at higher titers? I will certainly tell my doctor at my next visit, but was curious if this was important enough to call the office before then. Thanks, Andrea
