Squamous Metaplasia associated with Human Papilloma VirusFrom: alligator (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 3 Jan 1999 20:01:56 -0600 (CST)
My biopsy report from the colposcopy read: Endocervix- sections are of endocervical glands with mucus and red cells. Multiple levels are studied and no atypia is seen. Cervix- sections show partly denuded cervical biopsies with endocervical glands present and thin layer of atypical metaplasic epithelium on the surface which would account for an abnormal pap smear and I think this atypia is due to low grade lesion associated with human papillomavirus infection. Questions: Could you put this diagnoses in English for me? Is this pre-cancerous at all? Is human papillomavirus infection a sexually transmitted disease? I have been married for almost 10 years and have remained faithful in my marriage. As far as I know, my husband has been faithful too. Should I be concerned about infidelity from my husband? If the human papillomavirus infection is a sexually transmitted disease, how long can it remain dormant before it starts showing an abnormal pap? This is the first abnormal pap I've had with a colposcopy followup. I am 34 years old. Are there other ways the human papillomavirus infection can be transmitted? Is this diagnoses a mild or a serious one? What options do I have for treatment with something like this? I appreciate your help...thank you!
