Birth control pills also prevent ovulation (in the majority of women).
The side effects are not as severe as Depo. I started taking Depo to
prevent cysts from forming. After a year of shots, I couldn't stand the
side effects anymore (zero sex drive, and I was a newlywed!). I started
taking birth control pills. The problem went away.
A word of warning: a few small percentage of women ovulate on birth
control pills. I do and I still get cysts. I refuse to start the Depo
shots again because of the side effects. You probably will not have
this problem. It's very rare.
I wish you luck. Cysts should not mean the end of your future
fertility.
