Ask The Experts Menopause QuestionFrom: Margaret (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 31 Dec 1998 16:46:53 -0600 (CST)
For years I had Stein Leventhal Syndrome, diagnosed when I was 23y.o.. I continued to be mostly annovulatory for 15 years. The hirsuteism has remained, even after electrolysis. However, at 39 years old and after loosing 75 #s my menstrual cycle returned. I cycled every 30 - 36 days. Now I am 46y.o. soon to be 47y.o., my cycles are shortening, but I continually experience ovarian cysts which are painful and worsening in both frequency, and severity. After about 4 - 7 days the follicle or cysts rupture bringing relief and a serosanguiness vaginal discharge (initially soaks one pad but then is only episodes of spotting) followed in 7 days by a heavy menses. should I be concerned, I really don't want to use oral contraceptives to end the ovulation cycle as in the past they caused large weight gain (initially that triggered the whole pco syndrome problem.)? any ideas? Thank You... Margaret Sorensen
