Atypical Squamous Metaplasia

Could you please explain to me the following diagnosis that I received on my Colposcopy?: The cervix biopsy shows atypical squamous metaplasia with features associated with human papilloma virus infection. Is this a precancerous condition? Also, I had heard that the Human papilloma virus is a sexual transmitted disease...is that true? If it is a sexual transmitted disease, how long does it take for it to show on a pap test? I have always had normal paps before now. I have been married nearly 10 years and have only had one partner. As far as I know, my partner has been faithful. Are there other ways the human papilloma virus can be transmitted? I appreciate your help. Thank you!
