Re: vaginal exams/ Vote for Male Doctors & Gyn's!From: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 31 Dec 1998 11:14:56 EST
WOW!!! I must have missed this original post! Im sorry Carol, that you had a bad experience...maybe there was some misunderstanding involved here. I must agree that vaginal exams are far from pleasant but very neccessary. Also, I have had male doctors do the most gentle exams and women doctors do horrible ones and vice versa. In all honestly, the most "comfortable" exam I have had was by my MALE family doctor and the most uncomfortable one dome by a female nuirse midwife. Most are somewhere in between...nothing can be stereo typed so please lets not scare people off from getting good and proper medical care!!! Sorry, seems like you had a bad experience and that has clouded your
thoughts a little. I have found that most doctors/gyn's (whether male
or female) feel the same way we do about them;...pelvic exams are a very
necessary part of good medical care but defintely not the most pleasant
aspect. Do you know for sure that the infection was caused by the
doctor's examination? Maybe it was already present and the examination
just aggravated the condition. I personally have had both male and
female doctors/gyn's and quite honestly I prefer the male doctors, but
that's just me. I find that they are particularly sensitive about a
women's feelings toward the exam and try extra hard to conduct the exam
in a dignified and skillful manner showing care and concern. Hope you
get to feeling better soon.
