Polycystic OvariesFrom: Diana (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Dec 1998 23:32:23 -0600 (CST)
I had a sonogram last week, which revealed that my right ovary is enlarged, has a lesion which couldn't be identified, and has two cysts. My left ovary has a lesion as well. I'm in constant pain, and was diagnosed with endometriosis 10 years ago & had a d&c. My gynecologist ordered blood work (hormone tests) and will obtain hospital records from when I had the d&c. He said hormone therapy might work, or I might have to have an endometrial biopsy, a laparoscopy, or even a hysterectomy. We'll see when I return to his office early next month. Female problems run in my mother's family. She had a hysterectomy (she was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries too), as did my aunt & grandmother. I'm in too much pain & am concerned my physician will take a 'wait & see' attitude with regard to my condition. I don't want to wait for the cysts to go away (I don't think they will because of the problems I've had - too much pain, facial hair, etc), nor do I want to wait for hormone therapy to take effect. It seems to me that the only way he can be certain the lesions & cysts aren't caused by something serious is for him to go in surgically. Can anyone out there tell me what I can expect to happen next? Thanks. Diana
