Bartholine gland infection

I get infection in my Bartholine gland about once a year. I have been taking Cipro whenever the infection comes back, but I would like to know if I have other options. I am not sexually active yet, so I don't know what is causing the problem. Is it possible to take the gland out and will it be a problem? I am on birth control pill to regulate irregular mentral cycle. Could this be causing the frequent infections?
