Hi Sharon,

The irregular periods, cystic ovaries and hair loss are symptoms of PCOS. As you may know, PCOS has many symptoms and not each woman presents with the same symptoms. Personally, I do not have the cysts - but I have some of the other less desirable signs.

For information on PCOS, see the Women's Health links on OBGYN.net: http://www.obgyn.net/women/conditions/hc_pcos.htm

And also Dr. Mark Perloe's section about PCOS: http://www.ivf.com/pcostreat.html

To learn more about hormones and the effects they have on our bodies, I would suggest the book The Good News About Women's Hormones by Geoffrey Redmond, MD.

You have valid concerns and the thought of your doctor dismissing a very possible condition bothers me. You should seek an opinion from an endocrinologist or a reproductive endocrinologist as this falls under their specialty.

Best of luck to you!
