High uterus at 8 1/2 weeksFrom: AMD (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 2 Dec 1998 10:31:16 -0600 (CST)
I tried posting this on the pregnancy and birth forum, but didn't get any response, so I thought I would try here (there hasn't been much activity at all on the P&B forum lately!) I had my 8-week appointment Monday, and my doctor initially seemed surprised at how much uterine growth there had been in 3.5 weeks. After more checking, he said that my uterus wasn't necessarily large for 8 weeks, but that he had been surprised to find it so high, which initially made him think it was large. He said that it had already "popped out", and that didn't usually happen this soon. I assume he meant that my uterus had already moved from my pelvis to my abdomen. At what point does this normally occur? Is there any significance in "popping out" this early? We also heard the heartbeat with the doppler. He commented that it was loud. He also said that hearing the heartbeat was a very good sign, because it dropped the risk of miscarriage from 1 in 5 to 1 in 20. Is this comparable to other OB's experience? Thanks, Andrea
