Unfortunately, about 80-85% of miscarriages are due to chromosomal problems, and no amount of progesterone (or any medication) will fix a chromosomal problem. Some women seem to miscarry from a controversial condition called "luteal phase defect," where the progesterone level is not high enough to allow the pregnancy to "hold on" to the uterine lining. In this case, extra progesterone will help. However, this is a controversial diagnosis, and it probably only occurs in 5% or so of miscarriages. Thus, it looks like your doctor is trying as hard as possible to give you the best shot at keeping the pregnancy, but to be honest, a low progesterone level in early pregnancy is not a good sign. Since this is a very tricky issue, please ask your doctor about this in detail. To our knowledge, the risk (if any) or progesterone supplementation is minimal, if at all.

I will keep my fingers crossed that everything works out well for you.
