When your ovaries were present they secreted estrogen (like estrace) and progesterone (like Prometrium). I suspect your physician is attempting to recreate a hormonal millieu similar to what you had before. Unfortunately, the absorption of Prometrium is poor and variable. In our practice we prefer norethindrone as progestin substitute. We use Micro-Nor rather than Prometrium. It's cheaper, better absorbed, and produces steady blood levels. Clearly the best way to get answers to your doctor's specific treatment is to ask him/her about it, just like you asked us! Good Luck.
