It was never "pulled' from the market. While used in over 80 countries for decades as an excellent almost never-fails method of birth control, American"FDA-approval" for this indication lagged for many years. FDA approval or lack thereof does not mean that a drug cannot be administered by a licensed MD, for an indication outside FDA-approved indications. An excellent example is Lupron, which is approved by the FDA for administration to patients needing a cessation of heavy bleeding due to fibroids, to allow them time to overcome their anemia prior to surgery. Lupron can also have a very dramatic influence on the reduction in size of fibroids (average 50% reduction in size with 2-3 months of therapy), thus allowing an easier surgical procedure. This is not at this time an approved indication however. Dr.B
