Diabetes/infertility question

I have been on clomid for the last five cycles, and have ovulated twice. I do not have an official "diagnosis" for my infertility but I have several symptoms of PCOS. Due to a positive family history of diabetes, I asked to have a fasting insulin and glucose test to rule out insulin resistance (I was hoping that metformin with clomid might treat the problem as opposed to moving on to injectibles, which I cannot afford).

After searching the archives, I have a few questions. My fasting glucose level was 185, and my fasting insulin 12.4 (I am scheduled for more testing, but by my internal medicine dr, not my ob/gyn). If I understand correctly how to determine insulin resistance (fasting glucose divided by fasting insulin, with a value of less than five indicating insulin resistance), it sounds like I am not insulin resistant but should explore diabetes. If I am indeed not insulin resistant but borderline diabetic, would metformin therapy be a possibility? It seems as if this therapy is used with people who are insulin resistant, not diabetic. I am trying to get a referral to a RE, but I can't get an appointment for a few months and I really don't want to waste this time.

Thanks you in advance for your help. Paula
