If you are still in Phoenix I can give you the name of my PCP who prescribes it for me... This is a med used for high BP (it's a potassium sparing diuretic) which was discovered to have side effects of lowering testoterone. So now it is used to treat acne in women. I don't know about the hair thinning part because it is also used for hirsutism... but it can't hurt to check into it. The only side effect I have had (other than no acne!) is more tender breasts during PMS. Also look at the alt.skincare.acne newsgroup... there's a Dr. Joe Bark who is helpful there...has a web site http://www.dermconsultants.com/ As far as I know you should be able to have BP pills prescribed for reasons other than contraception and have it covered. Some insurances often will cover the non contraceptive use but NOT the contraceptive use of BP. Dr. Joe Bark can give you some pointers on the latest anti-acne bp pills. He seems very aware of these things. Finally, it can't hurt to check out the thyroid either.
