I have read a lot about fibroid embolization and it looks like a promising alternative to hysterectomy as a treatment for fibroids. I don't know why it hasn't gained more popularity, other than the fact that it is not performed by OBgyn's, who are the docs a woman naturally goes to for her fibroids, and they are perhaps still unfamiliar with it. Although it was started in this country at UCLA, I understand it is being done in more and more places around the country. Check these two websites for more info.
