McIntosh, MD >Clarksville, TN Where are your data about that? There are a lot of papers and data about endometriosis and infertility but almost nothing about endometriosis and pelvic pain. This is comprehensible because the women who suffer of infertility are involved in her treatment and have to visit often her health provider. But the women who suffer of pelvic pain and endometriosis, if they get a good result after the hysterectomy (with or without ovariectomy), they will not return to visit her health provider and it will be more difficult to obtain data. Obviously, the endometriosis being ectopic endometrial cells, the hysterectomy remove the source of the endometriosis. It is logic to think that it is benefic to remove the ovaries because endometriosis respond to ovarian hormone. But in my experience, only 6% of the women who had the hysterectomy for endometriosis will have recurrence of endometriosis.
