update, BCP for me don't prevent cysts, what next?

Well, I'm feeling horrible today. Almost went to the emergency room last night. My wonderful doctor and his staff were kind enough to work me in this morning. The ultrasound shows 2x8x2 cm cyst on right ovary and 4+ tiny multiple cysts in my left ovary. My doctor is still wait and see, which I agree with.

He's concerned that I might have appendicitis. My right side pain is very painful to me. I have constant low level nausea, not much of an appetite (but keeping things down), exhausted all the time, and sometimes feeling like I'm going to pass out. We're doing a wait and see on this as well. I know what to look for and go to the ER if anything weird comes up. Thank goodness I work at home as a computer programmer, since I can't work right now.

I have resigned myself to the reality that I cannot prevent these cysts. My doctor doesn't know what to do anymore. Since I do not want children now, my future fertility is looking grim. I am accepting that this is the path my life is taking. I'm 24.

How can you prevent ovulation (since these are functional cysts)? The birth control pills are not doing it. I'm beginning to think the answer is, "You can't." I want to be at peace with my body.

Is there any research being done in this area? Or is it so rare that women don't respond to bcp?

I don't know if any of you can help me. I would love to hear from other women who get large cysts on bcp.

I had written during the "Male vs. Female doctor" debate that I really would prefer a woman doctor and would be switching from my male, wonderful doctor. I have realized that a compassionate, understanding, open doctor is worth his weight in gold. I wouldn't switch my doc for the world. My doc trusts me, believes me when I'm in pain, does everything for me to make me feel at ease. He's wonderful.

Thanks,

--
