Christy, The fact that you had "fluid around your left ovary" on the first day of your period could represent a couple of things. It could be that you had a cyst on that ovary that ruptured. Each cycle, one or both of the ovaries forms a cyst from which ovulation occurs. Occasionally, ovulation does not take place and these cysts can continue to grow, sometimes rupturing later, causing either the cyst fluid or some bleeding from the site of rupture. We don't get concerned about these cyst unless they become quite large (> 7cm)or don't go away over the course of 2-3 cycles. If the fluid around your ovary represented a small amount of blood, this can be extremely irritating to the lining of your abdominal cavity and could explain the discomfort.

Less likely, but a possibility is this could represent endometriosis and the collection around the ovary is related to this process. Finally, fluid that remains around the ovary, rather than settling into the lower part of the pelvis, can lead one to suspect that there are adhesion (scar tissue)around the ovary. These can also cause discomfort. My advice would be to allow tincture of time to sort things out. Things that would increase the urgency would be worsening pain. Are you on any birth control-are you sexually active-was this a normal period-and could you be pregnant. If there is the least possibility that you could be pregnant, it could increase the urgency in that this could represent an ectopic pregnancy (tubal). Hope this helps some.
