Biopsy or ICSI?From: Mike (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 28 Oct 1998 14:11:06 -0600 (CST)
Recently, I read your article about male infertility and ICSI. I am presented with a situation now and would appreciate any information or advice you have based on your research. I have been diagnosed with severe olgiospermia. I've had three semen analysis done at different labs with the following results: 1.) 5 sperm found after centrifugation, 4 of which were normal, motile. Normal ejac. volume. 2.)16 sperm found after centrifugation, 10 of which were normal, motile. Normal ejac. volume. 3.)50,000 sperm found after centrifugation, 60% - 70% normal. Normal ejac. volume. Other tests which I have had are: Hormone levels - FSH, LH and testosterone normal Urinalysis - normal Retrograde ejac - negative Physical exam showed normal consistency and size testes of 18 - 20cc. No varicole or other palitable problems found. My doctor suspects either a parial blockage or maturation arrest. My question is: Is it worth it for me to have a biopsy done to determine if there is a blockage or should I just proceed directly to ICSI? Any information you could provide would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
