Can remains of embryo be analyzed after miscarriage?

I miscarried at 8 weeks and I brought the tissue to my doctor and asked him if he could have it analysed. He said no because it had been contaminated. My friend who is an RE told me that it can be analysed for chromosomal problems. What is the answer? I really need to know what happened to this pregnancy that was going along so amazingly well.
