Why can't my uterus be removed?From: Kris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 28 Oct 1998 00:26:32 -0600 (CST)
I have severe adhesions. I also had multiple large (10cm plus) ovarian cysts. The doctor thought removing my ovaries would eliminate the cyst problem and cure the pain I experience (at the time my husband and I were being seen for fertility issues as we wanted more children). My ovaries were removed (three times actually, do they grow back?) but my uterus was left. It was explained to us that removing my uterus was virtually impossible due to the adhesions. I was told it might be possible but would be a complicated and time consuming procedure. Can anyone explain this to me and possibly send me to a site with pictures as my knowledge of anatomy is not that good. I also experience bladder problems. I've mentioned this to my doctor and to my OBGYN but they have never pursued it. I can't seem to tell when there is urine in my bladder until it's full to the point of causing severe pain. By then, it seems, I have some kind of spasm (due to the pain?) and then lose control. I don't seem to lose total control just enough to relieve the pain. I have attempted to hold the urine in during these times but to no avail and the pain in unbearable. I can't have ultrasounds which require a full bladder as I end up in tears from the pain. I've been catheterized in the past and have literally cried my eyes out. Does anyone have any clue as to what causes this? It's very embarassing. Thank you so much. I find this forum very informative.
