can i ever have another baby?From: Andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 26 Oct 1998 21:31:08 -0600 (CST)
I recently wrote in and said that I had had my fourth miscarriage out of five pregnancies. I had two miscarriages the two years before my daughter was born, and have had two since, both being this year within seven months of one another. My husband and I have had genetic testing done which showed no abnormalities, and my ob suggested that I might have Luteal Phase Defect. I started taking progesterone as soon as my daughter was conceived and used the hormone for three months. I have subsequently tried the hormone in both of my last miscarriages to no avail. I am 26 years old, very healthy and active. My miscarriages have occurred at 10, 7, 7, and 5.5 weeks. My heart aches for another baby and feel that it would make my family complete. I am at the point now that I'm not sure I'll ever carry another baby to term. I respect and trust my ob very much, and he has been so supportive. My question is this: Are there doctors that specialize in the prevention of miscarriages? I know that sometimes it's impossible to determine the cause, but I can't help but hope that there's a doctor somewhere who could help me carry another baby. Is it far fetched to believe that after four miscarriages that I could carry another baby to term? My husband and I are really struggling with this. I have tried to detach myself to the point that I don't even get excited over a pregnancy--but rather hold my breath. I am very conscientious in taking my vitamins, limiting my exercise, and taking progesterone each night. My husband says he's had enough and at this point really doesn't want to try anymore. If you could provide any insight into what type of doctor might help us, we would appreciate any information greatly.
